A little bit of an overview...

I am a Guitar and Ukulele Tutor, offering private lessons and group workshops, based near Bognor Regis, West Sussex. I run several guitar and ukulele clubs for beginner and intermediate levels (Coustics), and numerous Open Mic nights between Worthing and Portsmouth. Gig-wise I play guitar and mandolin in an REM tribute band, (REMbrandt) and guitar and bass in a covers band (The Beaten Tracks). All these bands play all manner of venues and festivals along the south-coast.

One of the mostly commonly asked questions I get asked is "How long have you been playing?" and although, somewhere on this site there is a picture of me leaping off a beanbag with a Fisher Price guitar aged 5, the honest answer is, I didn't really start until I was about 19 or 20 and away at University studying Building Surveying. With no musical interest before that point, but in a house where everybody played but me, off I went. Skip forward another 10 years of very, very intermittent playing and my neighbour needs a lift to his guitar club on Thursday night, so off I go. Skip forward another 10 years or so, and I've been running that club for 8 of them, and I've started 2 others. I gave up a "normal job" 5 years ago because I couldn't be playing in a pub at midnight, and get up for a landscaping job at 6am the next morning, so I went full time.

I suppose my point is really that musically, it's never too late to start, and to take part in some amazing things that you didn't expect. I have a lot of qualifications, none of which are musical. I self taught my way into a second career by working hard, trying new things, and a lot of trial and error. So if you want help in doing even a part of that, with lessons, or by joining a club, looking for an outlet to play, or even joining a band (because that's happened more than once), I'm a good choice.

Past projects include the duo Sky Blue Skies, The Wintertones, and as bassist for 50s/60s group, The Sweeney Todd Band. The "Sweeney" still play on though, if you're looking for them you can find them on facebook, or send me a message and I can put you in touch.
